Shop Now

Starting in this spring, the “Shop Now” button on our Facebook Page (Acorn Hollow Farm) and the link above will be active. This will link you to a spreadsheet with a listing of our available veggies and such with their prices. You will be able to order from the spreadsheet and arrange to meet to pick up the goodies. You can pick them up at the farm by appointment, Saturday mornings at the farmers’ market in Irwin, or Sunday evenings in State College. Conveniently, we had this planned before the virus. I hope you will take advantage of this system, because it will make it much easier for us to plan, and get higher quality produce to you.

You can pick them up Thursday afternoons at the WIC office in West Kittanning, Saturday mornings at the farmers’ market in Irwin, Sunday evenings in State College, and various times at the farm. Conveniently, we had this planned before the virus. I hope you will take advantage of this system, because it will make it much easier for us to plan, and get higher quality produce to you.

2019: Rain has delayed planting of most crops. Some of the cabbage crops have gone to seed early. But, we have tomatoes doing well, most of the crops that are raised in the high tunnel are doing well. Corn and potatoes are going well. We got a new-to-us corn planter that we have refurbished and it did a great job planting.

We used row covers for the first time on the cabbage and lettuce. It seems to have helped control the insects big time. It is the first time I have been able to actually harvest broccoli before fall!

The rain has caused us many headaches this season. There have been days where we cannot get into the fields without sinking up to our boot tops. We are happy that we use raised rows. The water is in the trenches between them.

Many things are delayed, primarily tomatoes. I can’t wait until they ripen. So far only cherry tomatoes are ready. We have better success with cucumber this year. After the raccoons pulled them out and we had to replant, but there are English cucumbers almost ready. Lettuce and beets have been great this year. Snow peas are still hanging in there. Basil will be ready soon. Hopefully, all the rain means that the veggies will be large and luscious!
